Huchuy Picchu, whose name in the native Quechua language means "small mountain", offers a relaxed hiking experience through an ancient Inca staircase. This hike is the easiest and shortest option within the National Park, ideal for families with small children or travelers who prefer a less active pace without sacrificing adventure. Newly inaugurated in 2021, this trail provides breathtaking views of Machu Picchu from the heights, as well as a more detailed perspective of the surrounding natural landscape, without requiring a strenuous hike. In addition, it is an advantage that the cost of the entrance ticket that includes this hike is the same as the general entrance fee to the citadel of Machu Picchu.
The Huchuy Picchu hike is a 1.9-kilometer round-trip trail located near Machu Picchu, Cusco, Peru. It offers panoramic views and has a moderate difficulty. The trail offers several activity options and is best used from April to October.
Huchuy Picchu will offer you a vision of Machu Picchu, from a totally different angle from the usual ones, but much closer to its buildings. You will get stunning Huchuy Picchu photos and also rare photos of Machu Picchu. The difficulty is moderate.
The tickets of Circuit 3 (Route D - Huchuy Picchu), involve the same trail as the Huayna Picchu ticket. The difference between this ticket is the small mountain. The highlight of your visit to Peru is Machu Picchu and Huchuy Picchu. You will travel to Machu Picchu by train and then bus up to the site. After the visit to Machu Picchu, you can do other activities nearby like the walk to Mandor garden and waterfalls. If you want to see more of the Inca culture, you can visit the sacred valley of the Incas, the agricultural terraces of Moray and the salt mines of Maras with thousands of pools local people harvest salt from since Inca’s days
During your visit to Machu Picchu and Huchuy Picchu, you can choose between a variety of treks. These range from a full-day excursion to Inca Trail tours through the Urubamba Valley of the Cusco region. The multi-day tours can be combined with climbing of Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu or Huchuy Picchu mountains, but you can also walk along the Urubamba Riverside following the footsteps of the 4 day Inca Trail visiting archaeological sites such as Llactapata, Sacsaymarca, Phuyupatamarca, Wiñay Wayna and you can combine them with the Rainbow mountain tour. A trek through Andean villages with their inhabitants still practicing old traditions. If the 4 day Inca Trail is sold out, the best alternative hike is the Short Inca Trail, such as Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, Inca Quarry or Inca Jungle Trek. There are no limits to your thirst for adventures around the Machu Picchu area!
