Marcahuasi, a stone forest full of energy

Marcahuasi, a stone forest full of energy

To the east of Lima is one of the most striking destinations in the world, it is a huge forest of granite stones that everyone knows as Marcahuasi. It is located in the province of Huarochirí, at 4000 m s. no. m. and it is four square kilometers long, so it is a wonder to go around it.

Due to the unusual position of the Marcahuasi figures, the whole complex could have been a precise astronomical clock as happens with the Nazca lines, true or not, every year thousands of people arrive to the east of Lima, attracted by the energy that these lines transmit. stones .

Documentary filmmaker Carlos Velarde pointed out to TV Peru that "there are vibrations that are felt, there is a magnetism of the plateau, as if there were a nuclear reactor below due to the vibration that is felt at night, especially when it approaches the stones."

This plateau is the product of a volcanic eruption, therefore radiation and magnetism are present. “Volcanic products come loaded with magnetism and with radioactive content.

Magnetism in a certain way, like the human being, is made up of iron, so if there is enough magnetism it influences”, indicated the geologist Natalio de la Cruz.

That is why many people go up to the 4 thousand meters of Marcahuasi as punctually as the faithful to the religious sanctuaries, because they are going to revitalize their bodies.

What to see in Marcahuasi?

The gigantic rocks, eroded by weather action, measure up to 25 meters high. For many years, those who have visited Marcahuasi have climbed to the top of the enormous stones to gaze at the stars at night, and some have even dared to camp there.

Although, if it is about camping, it is best to do it in the Monument to Humanity, a gigantic granite formation that resembles the profile of a person. Another ideal place is the Amphitheater, preferred by many thanks to the fact that it is protected from the wind and cold.

In Marcahuasi, the Fortress also stands out, the highest point of the plateau, where there is a monolith with an immense stone altar. In addition, you can find chullpas, terraces and numerous buildings of pre-Hispanic origin, which are the record of the human presence that inhabited the area centuries ago.

The Cachu Cachu and Huacracocha lagoons, the Valley of the Seals and the Sacred Feline, are other attractions that stand out in this Lima destination that is one of the obligatory stops for lovers of trekking and rock climbing. Walking Marcahuasi from end to end can take about three and a half hours, so visitors should try to be in good physical condition and don't forget to bring several bottles of water.

All those who undertake the walk through this destination must wear a windbreaker jacket or a vest, because despite the fact that there is sun, an icy breeze blows. Likewise, it is recommended to use gloves, dark glasses, cocoa butter on the lips, a cap and sunscreen. It is also necessary to opt for footwear with non-slip and waterproof soles.

Best season to visit Marcahuasi

Summer is the best season to visit Marcahuasi, since the days are usually sunny and the nights are refreshing. So if you visit it, have fun to the fullest and don't forget that at all times you must take care of nature and respect biosafety protocols.

Legends and beliefs

On the other hand, legends say that the Andean gods: Sostacuri and Huallallo had a terrible fight and the result is what can be seen today on the plateau.

Regarding the extraterrestrial theme, there are many fans of Marcahuasi who affirm that it was the scene of a great cosmic battle and that the answer to all its mysteries comes from another galaxy.

At night it is not uncommon for people interested in encounters with beings from other worlds to come, since they say that Marcahuasi is a perfect place for UFO sightings despite the skepticism of the people.

There was a large water reservoir in that place and until recently seven lagoons that irrigated the farms that surround San Pedro, today only two remain: Huacracocha and La Laguna Negra, the rest dried up. For those who have never been to Marcahuasi, the water from the lagoon cannot be drunk because it is stagnant, but at least it serves to cool off.

The game of imagination

Perhaps the area that most attracts visitors are the cliffs that look to the west, there is the valley of the seals or walruses and gigantic sea lions. You make your imagination work in that place, you can see the image of Santa Rosa de Lima and very close a black and white stone shows us a virgin, a giant playing a musical instrument.

The highest point of the plateau is called Santa María at 4,030 meters above sea level, a place undoubtedly sacred to the ancient inhabitants, the same ones who say that one day they turned into stone.

A cave crosses the mountain until reaching a precipice with a spectacular view of the entire valley. Nearby is the fortress, a key site in Marcahuasi, a lonely mountain on whose summit a stone citadel was built that today looks dilapidated, it is unknown if it was a castle, a temple or a pantheon, but those who did it knew that centuries later everyone would be surprised to visit her.

How to get?

The initial whereabouts of the transport that will take you to San Pedro de Casta, is located in Jr. Libertad, in Chosica, 30 meters past the Echenique park on the same road, the combis or minibuses leave at 9:00 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m.

After an hour of travel you will reach the town of Huinco, located in the Santa Eulalia River Valley; the transport stops here for several minutes, the next stop will be in San Pedro de Casta itself.

If you start from the Plaza de Armas in Lima, it takes approximately 6 hours to get there by car, along the central highway.
