Its name is due to the geological formations that look like tall stone towers between 10 and 30 meters. high, formed by the erosive action of rain and wind. The Torre Torre Quaternary deposits located at the foot of the mountain flank east of the city of Huancayo in the central Peruvian highlands are more than 200m thick. They are made up of silt, clay and gravel shaped by a topography of gentle to steep slopes, affected by the erosion of gullies and the canyoning of streams from 3300 meters above sea level. Such unconsolidated deposits of late Pliocene-early Pleistocene age and of glacial-fluvial origin (Wise and Noble., 2008) rest regionally on the inter-Andean Mantaro depression.
